RNP Begins the Heating Season

Plīša lācis rudens lapās. Lācim galvā cepure un rokās adīklis. 2024-10-03

Starting today, October 3rd, SIA “Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” (RNP) will begin turning on the heating. All buildings are scheduled to have heating activated within three days, and each building will receive a specific date individually through a notification from the RNP client portal e-parvaldnieks.lv or the mobile app.

In renovated buildings heating will be turned on later — these builidings retain heat longer, thus the heating season there is generally shorter and costs residents less.

For two weeks after the heating is turned on, work to stabilize the heating system will continue — during this period, the systems will be bled and repaired where damage has occurred or where unapproved and improper summer repairs by residents have affected the system.

RNP decides to start heating based on pre-defined criteria: when for at least 3 days, the outside air temperature has not warmed above +14°C, and at some point, has dropped to +8°C, with similar or colder weather expected for the next three days.

Heating will automatically switch off on warm days
Since almost all RNP-managed buildings have modern automatic heating units, once the heating is turned on, on warm autumn days when the outside air exceeds +12°C, the heating will switch off automatically. This way, residents will not receive or have to pay for heating when it’s not needed.

Residents can choose to turn heating on earlier or later
Apartment owners can agree to have the heating turned on earlier or later for their building. This year, the first building, based on the decision of its residents, had its heating turned on on October 1st.

Since residents usually want to decide quickly about turning on the heating in response to current conditions, there isn’t time for a formal joint decision-making process, which takes at least two weeks. Therefore, it’s essential to appoint a representative for the building before the heating season, who has the authority, based on a collective decision, to choose the date for turning on the heating on behalf of the building. If there is currently no authorized person for the building, it is recommended to appoint one by spring to make decisions easier regarding the end of the heating season.
