RNP has renovated Art Nouveau façade at 10A Elizabetes Street

2022-09-29

Today, on September 29, SIA “Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” (RNP) has celebrated the completion of the façade restoration and renovation project implemented by RNP for the building managed by it at 10A Elizabetes Street in Riga. The works have been carried out by SIA “Fasāde PRO” and technical documentation for the restoration of the building’s façade have been developed by SIA “ADO birojs”. In order to implement the project, RNP attracted additional co-financing from the Riga City Local Government in the amount of EUR 19,820.72 to carry out the repair works. To sum up, the total costs of the project, including author supervision and construction supervision, amount to EUR 48,580.49 EUR (excluding VAT).

The building at 10A Elizabetes Street was built in 1903 and was originally designed by Konstantīns Pēkšēns, an outstanding Latvian architect. However, after the owners of the house had changed, Mihails Eizenšteins got an order to create a façade solution in the Art Nouveau style. Among its decorative elements one can see masks, lions, stylised representations of trees, vegetal and floral motives. SIA “ADO birojs” carried out an architectural & art analysis of the building to take into account the historical façade tones obtained during the study of the colours and developed a new colour chart for the restoration of the façade. During the restoration of the façade, a constant goal was to get a tone close to the historical tone of the façade and to fit into the overall atmosphere of the ensemble of buildings at Elizabetes Street.

“The building at 10A Elizabetes Street is already the fifth Art Nouveau building restored by RNP in recent years, and the same number of buildings will be restored soon. We are ready to continue this work in order to prove with each subsequent renovated façade that apartment owners, in cooperation with the managing company, can successfully implement even such complicated projects as the renovation of the façade of an Art Nouveau building. Just like other projects in the Quiet Centre, it has been a challenge to carry out façade restoration works at 10A Elizabetes Street because time was not kind to the architecturally complicated façade of the building. However, by investing a substantial amount of work, we are satisfied with the work done, we have enhanced our experience and helped Riga become more beautiful!”, Mr. Ronalds Neimanis, RNP Board Chairman, says.

“SIA “Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” has been proving its abilities to implement projects of such kind for three years now. This program, which gives the direct opportunity to support and renovate buildings of historical heritage, has been successfully operating since 2016. In total, several hundred façades have already been renovated within the program with the support of the Riga City Council now totally amounting to approximately EUR 6.5 million. Experience has shown that one of the most difficult stages is to reach an agreement with apartment owners, and the managing company has succeeded in this”, Mr. Jānis Lange, Riga City Executive Director, confirms.

It has already been reported that, on 26 January 2022, the owners of the residential house at 10A Elizabetes Street made a joint decision to participate in the competition “Co-Financing by the Riga City Local Government for the Preservation of the Cultural & Historical Construction Heritage in 2022” and authorised SIA „Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” to prepare and submit documents on behalf of the apartment owners in accordance with the regulations of the competition, as well as to implement the renovation project.
