Today, on 11 March, the annual awards ceremony “Latvian Architecture Award 2021” took place. In the nomination “Façade Renovation. Restoration. Reconstruction” the 3rd place was awarded to the façade of the building at Strēlnieku iela 1B renovated by SIA “Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” (RNP).
In total, RNP participated with four noteworthy buildings that were renovated last year – Alberta iela 2, Stabu iela 71, Jēzusbaznīcas iela 13, and the laureate – Strēlnieku iela 1B.
Ronalds Neimanis, Chairman of the Board in RNP: “I wish to extend my gratitude to everyone who believed in RNP. The excellent façade and receiving of the award prove that apartment owners, working together with an administrator, can successfully carry out projects as complex as the renovation of the façade of an Art Nouveau building. I am delighted that we have been able to carry out a truly remarkable restoration of the façade and that our work has been acknowledged. A lot of work has gone into restoring the façade of this building. I express my gratitude to everyone who helped make this project a reality. Strēlnieku iela 1B is a historical pearl through which we encouraged other apartment owners to make a joint decision on the renovation of their own façades by illuminating their façade for a week with the installation “Light Keys” that could be seen by everyone in Riga.”
Also this year, we are continuing to restore the cultural and historical façades of RNP buildings. Six objects have already been entered in the competition “Riga City Municipality Co-financing for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage in 2022”.
The project for Strēlnieku iela 1B was drawn up in 1912, but upon commencing the renovation process it was possible to preserve up to half of the historic and precious wooden windows of the façade. The entire façade is covered with a slightly textured graphite-coloured plaster. The façade retains its architectural details – eaves, decorative panels, wooden posts between window frames, and oriel windows. The renovation of Strēlnieku iela 1B was carried out by SIA “Fasāde PRO”, the technical documentation for the façade renovation was developed by SIA “ER.ARCH”. To implement the project RNP obtained additional co-financing from the Riga City Municipality of almost EUR 19,000 for the renovation. However, the total cost of the project was around EUR 52,000.
The mission of the “Latvian Architecture Award 2021” is to promote safe, innovative, high quality, and aesthetically pleasing buildings and structures constructed in the territory of the Republic of Latvia or abroad if Latvian citizens – builders, designers, construction manufacturers, etc. – were a part of the implementation of the project. The aim of the competition is to raise the prestige of the construction, design, and architecture sector in society by promoting good practice in Latvia and abroad.
