Façade renovation and restoration works for the apartment building at Alberta iela 2, Riga

On 8 December 2020, the owners of the apartments at Alberta iela 2, Riga, made a joint decision on participation of the building at Alberta iela 2, Riga, in the tender “Riga City Municipality Co- financing for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage in 2021” and authorised SIA “Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” to draw up and submit documents on behalf of the owners, in accordance with the tender rules.

The multi-floor masonry building at Alberta iela 2, Riga, was built in 1906.

Alberta iela is considered a pearl of Riga Art Nouveau architecture. All buildings at Alberta iela are architectural monuments with this building being no exception. Alberta iela is home to several public institutions, including the Riga Art Nouveau Museum, Jānis Rozentāls and Rūdolfs Blaumanis museums, etc.

The façade of the building is richly decorated. The building’s windows and balconies are of different sizes and shapes and decorated with carved railings. The roof above the ledges is decorated with figures of wondrous animals, but the corners with human (mostly female) face and head shapes. The entire building is crowned with original compositions. The façade is characterised by vertical elements – pillars, head moldings, balustrades, and compositions of architectural details, which emphasise its the verticality.

The total project costs comprising the construction work, construction supervision, author supervision, and project management – EUR 127 641, including VAT.

Co-financing from Riga City Municipality – EUR 20 000.
