The residential building with stores at Aleksandra Čaka iela 44, Riga, is a cultural monument of local significance with State Protection No. 7787. It was built in 1911. The year of construction is engraved in a decorative frame on the attic part of the façade. The building project was designed by the engineer-architect Edmund von Trompowsky (16.03.1851 – 19.01.1919) in Art Nouveau style. The building is located in the historical centre of Riga. According to the original design, the building had two passageways. The passageway of the courtyard has been blocked since 1978.
On 20 May 2020, an agreement was concluded with the Riga City Council Property Department for the implementation of the project “Project for Conservation of the Building at Aleksandra Čaka iela 44, Riga, cadastre designation 01000290062001”.
The co-financing provided amounts to EUR 18 749.18, representing 50% of the total estimate of eligible costs.
On 13 February 2020, a construction agreement was concluded with SIA “Texit” for EUR 50182.27, including VAT. Project implementation period: from 01.05.2020 to 31.10.2020.
The project included the renovation of the façade of the apartment building, the restoration of the roof canopy by creating the missing elements, and the renovation of balconies.
Riga City Municipality and the Inspectorate for the Protection of Cultural Monuments have contributed to the global recognition of Latvian cultural and historical monuments. An example of an achievement is the establishment of the status of the Historical Centre of Riga in a specific law. The Historical Centre of Riga has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
