On 26 January 2022, the owners of the apartments at Elizabetes iela 10A and 10C, Riga, made a joint decision on participation of the building at Elizabetes iela 10A, Riga, in the tender “Riga City Municipality Co-financing for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage in 2022” and authorised SIA “Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” to draw up and submit documents on behalf of the owners, in accordance with the tender rules.
The Ilishev apartment and shop building at Elizabetes iela 10A was built in 1903 and was originally designed by the prominent Latvian architect Konstantīns Pēkšēns. However, after the change of owners, Mikhail Eisenstein was commissioned to design an Art Nouveau façade. The building is an architectural monument of local significance (protection No. 8139), an urban monument of national significance – part of the Historical Centre of Riga (State protection No. 7442), and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site No. 852 – the Historical Centre of Riga (HCR), and it is governed by the Law on Protection of Cultural Monuments and other laws and regulations related to the protection of the HCR. It is an asymmetrically designed building with a courtyard entrance on the left side of the façade. The composition of the façade is dominated by a large elliptical window on the right in stark contrast with the rectangular windows below. Decorative elements include masks, lions, stylised tree, and plant and flower motifs. SIA “ADO birojs” that carried out the architectural and artistic analysis of the building created a new colour palette for the simplified façade renovation considering the historical shades of the façade obtained during the study and the façades of the buildings located at Elizabetes iela. The aim is to keep the shade of the façade as close to the historic shade as possible and to integrate it with the rest of the buildings at Elizabetes iela.
The façade restoration project seeks to fully preserve the original substances of the façade of the building at Elizabetes iela 10A, Riga.
Works performed within the project: restoration and renovation of the building’s façade.
The total project cost comprising the construction work, construction supervision, author supervision, and project management amounts to EUR 58 782.39 including VAT, of which the co-financing of the Riga City Municipality amounts to EUR 19 820.72.
