Following the weather forecast, SIA “Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” (RNP) has made the decision to mobilize all available specialists and technical resources to continue addressing the challenges posed by winter, even during these holidays. The unusually large snow cover has significantly increased the workload for both maintenance personnel and equipment. The primary challenge is snow removal from roofs, so it is planned to involve all available workers to ensure snow clearing from roofs, removing icicles, and clearing snow from courtyards in areas where it hinders the movement of people and vehicles.
Currently, RNP is receiving a large volume of customer applications directly related to the impact of snowy winter conditions. Simultaneously, RNP employees are conducting inspections of buildings and territories, planning necessary tasks. Several emergency measures have already been implemented to carry out cleaning works as extensively as possible, including the cleaning of driveways and courtyards, as well as clearing roofs of both snow and icicles. However, existing resources for clearing such a large amount of snow are insufficient, lacking both qualified personnel to work at certain heights (roofers, climbers) and specialized equipment (lifts).
RNP Chairman of the Board Māris Ozoliņš stated: “It’s no surprise that winter comes with snow in Latvia, but the quantity and intensity of snowfall vary each year. This winter is atypical with abundant snowfall right at the beginning. Despite the large amount of snow, our task is to ensure the cleanliness of customer building roofs as quickly as possible where necessary, as well as the speedy clearing of driveways and parking lots associated with homes. RNP employees are working in an intensified mode during these holidays and the beginning of the next week. Meanwhile, we have urged external service providers to maximize their capacity to clear snow from roofs that pose a danger to residents within the shortest possible time.”
As of today, 170 roofs have been cleared. Working intensively over the weekend, it is planned to clear an additional 154 roofs by the middle of next week. Additional workers will be assigned for roof cleaning and snow removal next week, utilizing all available external service capacity by involving all possible human and technical resources. Currently, due to the large volume of snow, the work is progressing relatively slowly. Therefore, in analyzing the progress of clearing driveways, yards, and building roofs from snow, RNP, in discussions with service providers, encourages maximizing external service capacity for snow removal. Currently, external services are provided by SIA “Ekozona,” SIA “Hagberg,” and SIA “Roadeks,” which won the bid for snow removal in 2022 with the lowest price offer.
