Water utility rates change from March 1

2024-01-29

On January 25, the Board of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (SPRK) approved the draft water services tariffs submitted by SIA “Rīgas ūdens” (RŪ). The new tariffs will come into effect on March 1 and provide for an overall increase in the current water supply and sewerage tariffs by approximately 2% or 4 cents per cubic meter.

From March 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025, the water supply service will cost 1.17 euros per cubic meter (excluding VAT), while the sewerage service will cost 0.97 euros per cubic meter (excluding VAT). The current tariffs are 1.16 euros per cubic meter for water supply and 0.94 euros per cubic meter for sewerage (excluding VAT).

The RŪ tariff changes are largely due to investments made in 2022 and 2023, which have allowed Riga residents to have uninterrupted, safe, and quality water services. No changes have been made to other tariff positions.

Such tariff adjustments are made in accordance with amendments to the methodology for calculating water services tariffs approved by SPRK, in order to be able to review tariffs in a timely manner in accordance with current costs and investments made. The amendments include a solution that allows for operational tariff review, including actual capital costs.
