The apartment building at Bauskas iela 51, Riga, is a five-floor building with three stairways, and 43 residential properties. The building was put into operation in 1963 and it has not undergone major renovations since.
The aim of the project is to improve the energy efficiency of the residential building at Bauskas iela 51, Riga, and to ensure its sustainability.
The project includes the insulation and finishing of both façades and the rear walls with 100 mm mineral wool, the window frames with 30 mm mineral wool, the insulation of the basement slab with 100 mm mineral wool, the insulation of the attic with 200 mm mineral wool and the simultaneous replacement of the roofing. The base is to be partly insulated with 50 mm extruded polystyrene foam. In addition, the basement windows will be replaced leaving ventilation, the common entrance, vestibule, and basement doors will be replaced. The project includes the replacement of the existing basement and attic thermal insulation using mineral wool segments with aluminium foil coating. The ventilation of the building will also be renovated – the ventilation shafts will be cleaned and renovated, and self-regulating air valves will be installed.
The project is implemented to prevent the building structure from further deterioration and to reduce the cost of heating. Also, the thermal resistance of the building’s construction does not comply with current building regulations.
The project is expected to result in 60.3 KWh/m2 of heat energy consumption instead of the current 126 KWh/m2 per year, thus leading to significant reductions in energy consumption and CO2 emissions, as well as significantly lowering heating costs.
